2 arrests in shooting outside club
Colorado Springs Police have arrested two men in the shooting death of Virgil “Jason” Means March 3 outside the Sin City Disciples' motorcycle club at 628 W. Vermijo St.
They are Fountain resident/ club member Christopher Mountjoy, 30; and Fort Carson soldier John Anthony Burrell, 27, police press releases state. Both are being held on first-degree murder charges.
Means, 31, was a passenger in a vehicle leaving the club - heading east on Vermijo toward Chestnut Street - not long before dawn March 3. Police said “several shots were fired at the vehicle,” and one of the bullets hit Means. He died a short time later.
As part of a set of planned “Hands off My Health Care” rallies nationwide Tuesday, March 27, the Colorado Springs chapter of Americans for Prosperity (AFP) plans an event at 6 p.m. at the Westside Community Center, 1628 W. Bijou St.
Preregistration is re-quested on the Springs chapter's website.
The date marks the two-year anniversary of the passage of the federal health care package, which opponents (including AFP) have decried as intrusive on personal freedoms.
Westside garden plots
Plots may still be available for 2012 in the Westside Community Center garden at 1628 W. Bijou St.
The raised beds are 4 by 8 feet in size. The cost is $15, and are being rented out on a first-come, first-served basis, according to Larry Stebbins of Pikes Peak Urban Gardens (PPUG), who got the garden going last year with help from the center and private donors.
