What do you do?
Where do you work and what is your title?
I’m a co-owner, along with my daughter Allison, of Twice Appreciated, a quality-resale shop.
What do you do there and/or what are you responsible for?
Because we have a constantly revolving inventory, we are always decorating! I share the bookkeeping, maintenance and general upkeep of the shop with my daughter. We’ve always worked well together.
How long have you been doing this kind of work (total)? How long on the Westside?
The store has been open six weeks, but I have dealt with used products for more than 20 years. We used to go to the flea markets and auctions in the ‘80s; that’s where I first learned about buying and selling. I am native to Colorado Springs and lived on the Westside for 13 years when I was younger. I’m excited to have our business here. It’s the best part of the Springs.
What do you like best about it (other than quitting time)?
The people I have met are priceless. I have made many new friends here, and know I will continue to acquire great relationships. I also like the fact that those who buy from the store are already repeat customers and have sent referrals to us.
If you could change one thing (other than pay), what would it be?
Changing how fast people’s lives are. The world we live in seems demanding. “Back in the day” was a much simpler time. In terms of my shop, I’d like to move to a bigger building so that we’d have room to expand.
What part of your work did your training/education never prepare you for?
As a real estate investor, I’ve learned to work with people and how to fix a property for resale. However, I was disillusioned when I found a few of our items missing and realized they’d been stolen. I’m prepared now.
What makes working on the Westside special?
It seems that people on the Westside have a tight sense of community. So many are loyal to this side of town. coming back after more than 20 years, the attitude remains just as if I never left.
“What do you do?” is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you know someone who has an interesting job on the Westside (but doesn’t live here), he/she might be a candidate for this column! If you know someone who might qualify, give us a call at 471-6776.
