Meet a Westsider:
staff assistant at West Elementary.
What I like most about the Westside is... My wonderful neighbors are number one. The closeness to the mountains and Garden of the Gods Park are fantastic. I love waking up and looking at Pikes Peak, then going out into the yard to see what animals are about. We have seen the deer, bears, raccoons, foxes and evidence of mountain lions.
If I could change anything about the Westside, it would be... the homeless encampments along I-25 and Hwy 24.
A good movie Iíve seen recently is... I plan to see ďAvatarĒ in 3D. My husband Ron and I are looking forward to seeing this soon.
I'd like to discover... I like to discover historical and educational places with our grandchildren. Rock Ledge Ranch, Cave of the Winds, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Seven Falls, Garden of the Gods Park, the American Numismatic Association and the many hiking trails are some of the places we have enjoyed together.
If I could meet someone famous, Iíd like to meet... The only famous person I would like to meet is Mother Teresa. Her strength, wisdom, and life of service are truly examples of how each of us can make a difference in our world.
The next time I travel, Iím going to... The next time we travel, we are going to slow down and leave the main roads to discover some of the areas hidden attractions.
My favorite childhood memory is... of spending summers with my grandparents in their adobe house in La Veta. We picked and ate wild berries and went fishing at the lake. Grandma Andrea would make the best chokecherry jelly. Then we would smother it on nice hot tortillas she would make on her wood- burning stove. After supper, we would sit around a campfire and listen to stories that our parents and grandparents would tell.
My favorite winter pastime is... to watch the Do It Yourself (DIY) Home Network and HGTV. I like to get ideas for projects that are easy and that I can try in our home.
Something good Iíve read is... the Gazette and of course the Westside Pioneer. I enjoy learning about our area, keeping up with what is happening in our area, and our neighbors.
My pet peeve is... people who mistreat animals and folks that do not pick up after their dogs, especially at the parks.
If I didn't have to work for a year I'd... find too many DIY projects at home, and would miss the children and their families and the wonderful staff at West Elementary and District 11.
Meet a WestsiderĒ is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you would like to be a Meet-a-Westsider (or know someone who should be), please give us a call at 471-6776.
