Meet a Westsider:
Paul Kavanaugh

Profession/Occupation... Web content and social media manager, KOAA 5; president, Citizens Advisory Committee, Colorado Springs Police Department, Gold Hill Division, and social media volunteer. Yes, I post on Facebook and tweet for the police.

What I like most about the Westside is... The sense of eclectic neighborhoods that make up the best side of town!

If I could change anything about the Westside, it would be... the proximity of specialty stores. Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s, anyone??

A good movie I’ve seen recently is... “Page One: Inside the New York Times.” It's a fascinating look at how social media is impacting mainstream media and what the future looks like.

I'd like to discover... How to understand people better. I think people are a sum total of their life experience. If someone is very opinionated about a topic, you can bet their life experience played a role in reaching that conclusion. Once you know that, you can better appreciate where they are coming from.

If I could meet someone famous, I’d like to meet... Abraham Lincoln. I am fascinated by his life as a president who had a great impact on the country.

The next time I travel, I’m going... the Pacific Northwest.

My favorite childhood memory is... The large family gatherings for Thanksgiving and Christmas with parents, grandparents, great grandparents and lots of cousins, aunts and uncles.

My favorite winter pastime is... Used to be skiing until my knees said no! Walking or hiking in the Garden of the Gods, Red Rock Canyon or Monument Park is very relaxing.

Something good I’ve read is... “Stuff White People Like: the Definitive Guide to Unique Taste of Millions,” by Christian Lander. I resemble many of those traits that the book pokes fun at, as do my friends and relatives.

My pet peeve is... Drivers who stop at the end of entrance ramps to I-25 or drive slowly in the left lane.

If I didn’t have to work for a year, I would... Visit as many national parks as possible.

Meet a Westsider” is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you would like to be a Meet-a-Westsider (or know someone who should be), please give us a call at 471-6776.
