McFarland Cog train talk at History Center Feb. 24
Local historian Mel McFarland will take attendees on a Cog Railway ride up Pikes Peak using vintage post cards in a presentation at the Old Colorado City History
Center Saturday, Feb. 24.
Titled “Pikes Peak by Postcard,” the talk will begin at 1 p.m. The center, operated by the volunteer Old Colorado City Historical Society (OCCHS), is at 1 S. 24th St.
There is no admission charge, but donations are accepted.
“Most of the views are from the very early days of postcards, a century ago,” according to an OCCHS press release, which adds that some of the cards McFarland found in his research “do not actually represent reality!”
Formerly a schoolteacher, McFarland is well-known for his two detailed books on the Midland railroads and his regular columns in area weeklies, including “Cobweb Corners” in the Westside Pioneer.
