What do you do?
Where do you work and what is your title?
I work at Edward Jones as a financial advisor.
What do you do there and/or what are you responsible for?
I develop strategies to help people achieve their financial goals. I run the Old Colorado City branch office and provide financial services to individual investors and small business owners in the community.
How long have you been doing this kind of work (total)? How long on the Westside?
I’ve been in the finance/accounting industry for over 8 years. I have been on the Westside about 1 1/2 years when I started my career with Edward Jones.
What do you like best about it (other than quitting time)?
I am very passionate about what I do. There are so many things I love about it. To sum it up, I get to make a difference in peoples’ lives. There is nothing more rewarding than to tell a family that they will be able to retire comfortably, pay for their children’s education, or go on that dream vacation.
If you could change one thing (other than pay), what would it be?
I would eliminate all the noise in the media. We believe in sticking to principles and not predictions. I wish I could touch more people and educte them on the importance of a plan; a plan that anticipates down markets, because they are inevitable.
What part of your work did your training/education never prepare you for?
I develop relationships with my clients and their families; you are never prepared for the emotional stress involved with family emergencies or economic hardship. When a loved one is lost, a job is lost, or there are financial struggles...it affects their lives greatly of course, but is also emotional for me.
What makes working on the Westside special?
I’m a Colorado native and have lived on the Westside since I was a kid. I love the people, culture, diversity, and small community feel; while still being a part of a big city. Being able to build and run my business in the community I live in and grew up in is priceless.
“What do you do?” is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you know someone who has an interesting job on the Westside (but doesn’t live here), he/she might be a candidate for this column! If you know someone who might qualify, give us a call at 471-6776.
