Meet a Westsider:
I have been a registered nurse for more than 30 years. I co-own (with Cindy Holdt) Appoint-ment Advocates, which helps seniors maintain their autonomy and independence by medication management and by providing a physical presence at medical appointments. I am also a board member for the nonprofit organization, Senior Resource Council.
What I like most about the Westside is... I like the small-town feel of our neighborhood. We have a drug store, grocery store and library all within walking distance of home. Everyone is so friendly and stops to chat in the fresh-fruit section at the grocery or the greeting-card area at the drug store.
If I could change anything about the Westside, it would be... to influence the insurance companies to please listen to those families impacted by the Waldo Canyon fires and their desires to obtain resolution and move on.
A good movie I’ve seen recently is... I went to see “It’s A Wonderful Life” on the big screen during the Christmas holiday. I know the movie is fiction, but to have an angel let a man see his life as if he hadn't been born is very emotional. Being a nurse and knowing whose lives I have possibly impacted during my career would truly be a miracle.
I'd like to discover... a cure for peripheral neuropathy for those who experience the chronic pain and suffering from this condition.
If I could meet someone famous, I’d like to meet... Ron Howard. He is a talented actor and movie director, plus husband and father, whose notoriety doesn’t appear to have affected his private life.
The next time I travel, I’m going... We would like to visit our youngest son Erik, who is stationed in Washington, D.C. with the Marine Corp Color Guard.
My favorite childhood memory is... going on picnics every weekend growing up in southwest Wisconsin with my cousins, aunts and uncles.
My favorite winter pastime is... shoveling the driveway. Brings back memories of growing up in Wisconsin, but in Colorado we have a south-facing driveway so the snow melts quickly!
Something good I’ve read is... “Lethal” and “Low Pressure,” by my favorite author, Sandra Brown. Good mystery and romance.
My pet peeve is... those dog- walkers who put poop-filled plastic bags in the park container for plastic bags. Seriously, the trash can is right beside the bag-holder!!
If I didn’t have to work for a year, I would... for the first six months, I would like to travel the United States in a motor home with my husband Endre and the other six months go to Norway and visit with my Norwegian relatives still living there.
