Westside schools:
Bristol sets African arts night; Holmes honored

       Bristol Elementary students will present music and art activities reflecting their African studies Thursday, Feb. 12.
       “Uzuri Afrika Ugunduzi” will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a “Beat of Africa” performance featuring African drumming, dancing, singing and Suzuki violins.
       Scheduled to begin at 7:15 p.m. are the following: an art exhibition, storytelling, sample African cuisine and craft-making.
       Free and open to the public, the event is sponsored by the Bristol Elementary PTA through a grant from the AXA Foundation for National Take Your Family to School Week.

       Holmes Middle School, 2455 Mesa Road, has been redesignated a Colorado Trailblazer School to Watch by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle- Grades Reform. Holmes is one of 8 Colorado middle schools and 200 nationwide to have earned this designation.
       Holmes will be honored in Washington, D.C., June 26 along with other Schools to Watch from across the nation.
       Holmes had previously been designated in 2006. The designation lasts three years.
