VA clinic opening now seen in AugustAt the groundbreaking for the new Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) outpatient clinic on Fillmore Hill in November 2012, planners were so confident of a May 2014 completion that they put the date on the cake served for the occasion.
Now it could be said that they “ate their own words,” because the clinic's opening date was recently changed to August of this year.
Dan Warvi, public affairs officer for the Veteran Affairs Eastern Colorado Health Care System, said a big reason for the schedule slip was the heavy rain last August and September. He predicted a “mid-August” opening.
At the same time, however, he said his office has been so impressed by the work done by the contractor, U.S. Federal Properties, that he would not be totally surprised if the company pushes to finish by the originally predicted month. “They've done an amazing job,” he said.
When open, the three-story, 80,000-square-foot building is to replace two current outpatient VA clinics, at 25 N. Spruce St. and 320 E. Fontanero Street (Suite 200), which have just 36,000 square feet between them, plus add services they don't offer.
The facility is being built on an 18-acre site facing onto Centennial Boulevard south of Fillmore Street.
