Westside Community Center plans Feb. 12 event, seeks gardeners
‘2nd Saturday’ offers sports, games, design activity for teens
Indoor activities for middle and high school students are planned for the initial “Second Saturday Sensations” Feb. 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Westside
There is no charge, and lunch will be included. Reservations are not needed. All activities will be in the westernmost building at the center, 1628 W. Bijou St.
According to Westside Center director Dick Siever, the program will offer sports in the gym - dodgeball, indoor soccer, hockey and bucketball (a game similar to basketball). “We'll rotate stuff,” Siever said. “It won't be real regimented.”
In addition, separate rooms will be set up for kids who want to try bingo, karaoke or a T-shirt design contest.
Center staff and volunteers will oversee the activities to make sure that all participants “will have a good time,” Siever said.
The Feb. 12 “Sensations” will be the first in a series of four, continuing through the spring. The others will be the second Saturdays in March, April and May.
Coming up later in February at the center will be another new monthly activity - one that's intended for families. Its called Fourth Saturday Family Fusion. Details are still being finalized.
