Nature Center orienting volunteers

       A free volunteer orientation session for people who would like to help out at the county's nature centers will be Saturday, Jan. 29.
       The time frame is 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Bear Creek Nature Center, 245 Bear Creek Road.
       Both county centers (Bear Creek and Fountain Creek) have volunteer positions on weekdays and weekends for anyone 18 years of age and older.
       “Volunteers provide information to nature center visitors and programs for enthusiastic school children, help with special events and projects and assist with public programs and hikes,” a press release states.
       Advance registration is requested by Jan. 27. For more information, call Paula Megorden at the Bear Creek Nature Center, 520-6388.
      
       Sewer upgrades start
       Colorado Springs Utilities has scheduled the following wastewater system rehabilitation projects to start this week:
       North 28th Street, from Platte to Bijou.
       28th between Bijou and Platte in the alley.
       Willamette and 24th in the easement.
       According to Colorado Springs Utilities, all these projects are expected to be completed in five to seven weeks, including refill and paving time.
