What do you do?
Where do you work and what is your title?
I work at West One Family Dental, a general dental office and I’m a general dentist.
What do you do there and/or what are you responsible for?
I’m responsible for caring for patients of all ages, from toddlers to our nursing home patients in the later stages of life. I treat all phases of dentistry including braces, root canals and implants.
How long have you been doing this kind of work (total)? How long on the Westside?
I have been a dentist for almost 12 years – nearly two years on the Westside since our family relocated to the Springs in April 2011.
What do you like best about it (other than quitting time)?
I love helping people feel better by improving their smiles, which can improve their self-confidence. I also enjoy helping people by relieving their pain. The other facet that I love about my job are the relationships built over the years with the entire family – grandparents and grandkids. It’s fun to swap stories about the holidays or crazy things our kids are up to.
If you could change one thing (other than pay), what would it be?
Nothing. Well, I would like the Westside to know if I could change one thing about my job as a dentist it would be the perceptions of dentistry. We are here to help and serve our community in a gentle and relaxed environment. We know some have had bad experiences in the past, but I’d like to help change their perception with my nurturing approach!
What part of your work did your training/education never prepare you for?
My education from the University of Michigan was very comprehensive and I have always felt prepared. Of course, as dentists we continue to learn throughout our careers. One thing that clinical education does not train you for is how each and every mouth is attached to a whole person and is as unique as the individual is!
What makes working on the Westside special?
The people we care for and the staff at West One Family Dental! I’ve lived all over the country and here on the Westside, our community is proud to live here, work here and share in all the amazing things it has to offer. That is truly special.
“What do you do?” is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you know someone who has an interesting job on the Westside (but doesn’t live here), he/she might be a candidate for this column! If you know someone who might qualify, give us a call at 471-6776.
