What do you do?
Where do you work and what is your title?
I’m the vice president of operations at Pikes Peak National Bank.
What do you do there and/or what are you responsible for?
I handle the bank’s day-to-day backroom and operations. Wherever and whatever they need me for. We’re an in-house bank, and I supervise all the departments (including the wiring service, ATM, returns, statements and research) that larger banks have specialized departments for. This way, we take care of the individual’s needs and don’t have to refer people to a special department.
How long have you been doing this kind of work (total)? How long on the Westside?
13 years in all. Over nine years on the Westside.
What do you like best about it (other than quitting time)?
The employees. They are wonderful people to work with. Also, it’s close to home and family.
If you could change one thing (other than pay), what would it be?
To add a branch in Hawaii!
What part of your work did your training/education never prepare you for?
Peoples’ reactions. Textbooks don't take into account how people react if their account is in the negative or if we have to put a check on hold. We reassure them that everything will be taken care of and work with them on an individual basis. You can guess or assume all you want but I've been shocked many times at some people’s reactions or responses.
What makes working on the Westside special?
It still has the small-town atmosphere within the city of Colorado Springs. I’ve come to know many great people on the Westside. They’re friendly and helpful.
“What do you do?” is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you know someone who has an interesting job on the Westside (but doesn’t live here), he/she might be a candidate for this column! If you know someone who might qualify, give us a call at 471-6776.
