New offerings in West Center brochure
Five new classes are being offered through the West Intergenerational Center, 25 N. 20th St., according to the just-released Winter/Spring 2009 brochure.
The 12-page brochure also lists special events, group excursions; continuing classes, activities and services; and programs for all ages.
Free special events scheduled over the next few months include a free chocolate taste-testing Feb. 12 (limited to ages 55 and over), a salute to African-American musical artists Feb. 21 and a St. Patrick's Day party March 16.
Ongoing for teens are Friday Night at West (most Fridays from 4:30 to 8 p.m. - supervised, with a DJ, sports and games) and the Teen Recreation Center (homework assistance and other activities) after school for grades 5-8. The teen nights cost $2 a person, while the rec center is $1.75 a day.
The West Center, which is funded through Colorado Springs and School District 11, is also seeking residents to serve on a committee to help plan and implement intergenerational activities. The next meeting will be Wednesday, Jan. 23 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. RSVPs are requested at 385-7925.
The new classes are Feng Shui, Beginning Numer-ology, Recreational Basketball for Women (ages 50 and over), Retirement Planning Today and Beginning Tarot.
