Westside schools:
West SAIL info meeting at Tesla

A informational meeting is scheduled Wednesday, Jan. 12 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. for parents interested in putting their children in the SAIL program for gifted students at West Middle School.
Because the meeting also applies to the other District 11 SAIL middle school (Sabin, on the east side), a more centralized location has been chosen for the meeting - the Tesla School auditorium, 2560 International Circle.
“Gifted and Talented education is a department that supports and encourages appropriate programming for bright students,” according to Gary Marx, director of the program for D-11.
       For more information, call 520-2463.

Prospective students from inside as well as outside the Coronado High attendance area are welcome.
According to the District 11 website, visitors will get a school overview, including information about curriculum, special programs, sports, clubs and other extracurricular activities.        Trumpeting in Hong Kong
Coronado High School 2005 graduate Colin Oldberg is now prinicipal trumpet for Hong Kong Philharmonic, according to Alan Combs, who had been his band instructor at Coronado.
Combs indicated no surprise at the news. In his senior year at Coronado, Oldberg's trumpet work had earned him selections to All-State Band, Jazz Band and Orchestra, including first-chair honors.
